With the NFL offseason underway, the Green Bay Packers are looking to make strategic moves to elevate their standing in the NFC. Following their Wild Card exit, it’s evident that general manager Brian Gutekunst and the front office have more work to do in order to turn Green Bay into a true Super Bowl contender.
The Packers already have a solid foundation and aren’t far from being a championship-caliber team. However, they still have key areas to address. Jordan Love would benefit from a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver, and the secondary needs reinforcements. One major question mark is Jaire Alexander’s future with the team.
Alexander has struggled with injuries, playing just seven games in each of the last two seasons. Given his inability to stay on the field, Green Bay may consider moving on from him.
Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert recently proposed a blockbuster trade idea that would send Alexander to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for star wide receiver DK Metcalf.
“The Packers are the type of organization that isn’t afraid to move a star player,” Benkert said. “They need a true No. 1 receiver, and Metcalf fits that role perfectly. He’s a big-bodied target who can make plays in the cold, block when needed, and win one-on-one matchups outside.”
Adding Metcalf would be a major boost for Green Bay, giving Love the best weapon of his career. In the 2024 season, Metcalf recorded 66 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdowns with Seattle, though he has the potential to deliver even bigger numbers.
A trade involving Alexander and Metcalf could be a logical move for the Packers. If they decide to part ways with their star cornerback, acquiring a proven No. 1 receiver in return could be a win-win situation for both teams.
