Super-G Olympic champion Lara Gut-Behrami will sit out the entire 2025–26 alpine skiing season after suffering a torn ACL during training in Copper Mountain last week. The Beijing 2022 gold medallist, who also claimed Olympic bronzes in the Sochi 2014 downhill and the giant slalom in Beijing, will therefore miss the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games beginning on 6 February.
Gut-Behrami told Swiss Ski that the diagnosis was devastating, explaining that she had envisioned the months ahead very differently and had been eager for the remainder of the season. In addition to the ACL tear, she also damaged her MCL and meniscus in her left knee.
She added that, in light of recent tragic accidents involving young athletes in the sport, even a serious knee injury cannot be viewed as a true tragedy.
The 34-year-old had planned for this to be her final season, but now says she may reconsider depending on her recovery. Her focus is on healing fully and regaining her top form before deciding what comes next.
