Notre Dame reveals new football leprechaun logo for first time in 60 years.

Notre Dame has introduced a new football-specific version of its iconic Fighting Irish leprechaun logo, the school announced Thursday.

Created in-house by Fighting Irish Media with input from athletic department staff, the design drew inspiration from photos and running styles of past and present student-athletes. This is the first update to the program’s leprechaun logo since the 1960s, when the original design debuted on the cover of Time magazine’s November 20, 1964, issue featuring legendary coach Ara Parseghian. That image eventually evolved into the school’s trademark symbol that has lasted for more than 60 years.

The football-focused logo is the first in a rollout of sport-specific marks that will continue throughout the 2025-26 school year and beyond. Merchandise featuring the new design is already available through Notre Dame’s official online store.

Coming off a 34-23 loss to Ohio State in last season’s national championship, Notre Dame enters 2025 ranked No. 6 in the AP Top 25 and will open the season against No. 10 Miami on August 31.

“This is a fun departure from Notre Dame’s traditional approach,” said Andrew Gillis of cleveland.com / The Plain Dealer. “Other schools, like Western Kentucky, have tried similar logo styles with strong fan reception. From a branding and merchandise standpoint, it’s a creative and engaging move for Notre Dame.”
