Noah Lyles challenges Kishane Thompson to a one on one race in Kingston and sparks fresh rivalry talk.

Noah Lyles floated a daring proposal after placing second in the 100m at the Silesia meet on Friday, August 16, 2025. Racing at the Silesian Stadium in Poland, the American clocked 9.90 seconds behind Kishane Thompson’s winning 9.87.

Following the race, the 27-year-old suggested their next clash should be a one-on-one showdown in Kingston, Jamaica. Lyles believes that a packed Jamaican crowd and the absence of other competitors would not only raise the intensity of their rivalry but also energize the sport.

In his post-race remarks, the reigning World Champion explained: “I wanted to do a one-v-one race in Jamaica. Just me and him. We could fill the whole stadium.” He added that such a duel would push both sprinters to their limits and give Thompson’s home fans an unforgettable spectacle, especially given the Jamaican’s current form.

Lyles’ schedule continues with a meet in Tokyo on September 14, 2025, as part of his World Championship preparations. He also confirmed in Lausanne on Wednesday, August 20, that another head-to-head with Thompson is already lined up.
