No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing team levied L2-level penalty after Daytona..

The No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing team received an L2-level penalty following the season-opening Daytona 500. After a detailed inspection at NASCAR’s Research & Development Center in Concord, North Carolina, officials discovered unauthorized modifications to the spoiler of the No. 19 Toyota, driven by Chase Briscoe.

According to the NASCAR Rule Book, L2-level penalties involve alterations to Next Gen single-source vendor supply parts. JGR was found in violation of Section 14.1, which covers overall vehicle assembly rules, and Section 14.5.8, specifically related to the spoiler. The investigation revealed that the spoiler base had been modified, which is strictly prohibited since it is a standardized part.

As a result, Briscoe was penalized 100 driver points and lost 10 playoff points. JGR was fined $100,000 and had 100 owner points, along with 10 playoff points, deducted. Additionally, crew chief James Small received a four-race suspension.

Joe Gibbs Racing responded to the ruling with a statement on Wednesday evening, announcing their intention to appeal the penalty. They explained that the issue arose during the assembly process when bolts attaching the spoiler base to the deck lid caused unintended interference.

Other penalties were also issued after the Daytona 500. The No. 34 Front Row Motorsports and No. 51 Rick Ware Racing teams were penalized for a safety violation involving ballast being found outside the designated ballast containers. As a result, drivers Todd Gilliland and Cody Ware were each docked 10 driver points, while their teams also lost 10 owner points.
