April 24, 2025 – Netflix has announced a new music documentary that will chronicle the remarkable life and career of rock legend Glenn Hughes. Titled “The Voice Of Rock – The Glenn Hughes Story”, the film is set to premiere globally later this year, offering fans a deep and intimate look into the journey of one of rock’s most iconic voices.

Glenn Hughes, known for his soaring vocals, soulful bass lines, and contributions to legendary bands like Deep Purple, Trapeze, Black Sabbath, and more recently, Black Country Communion and The Dead Daisies, has long been celebrated as one of the greatest vocalists in rock history. The documentary promises to explore his five-decade career, showcasing rare footage, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes stories that shaped the man behind the music.

Produced by Netflix in collaboration with Banger Films (the team behind Metal Evolution and ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas), the film will trace Hughes’ humble beginnings in Cannock, England, through his rise to global fame with Deep Purple in the 1970s, and his struggles with addiction, which nearly ended his career — and his life. It will also shine a light on his inspiring comeback and enduring influence in the world of hard rock and soul-infused metal.

In a statement, Hughes expressed his gratitude and excitement about the project: “This film is not just about the music — it’s about the journey. I’ve lived a wild life, had some extraordinary highs, and survived some deep lows. I’m honored that Netflix is helping tell my story, not just as a rock musician, but as a human being who never gave up.”

The documentary will feature interviews with fellow rock icons such as Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), David Coverdale (Whitesnake), Joe Bonamassa, and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), among others. These collaborators and friends provide personal insights into Hughes’ artistry, resilience, and the unique qualities that earned him the moniker “The Voice of Rock.”

Music critics and fans alike are eagerly anticipating the film’s release. With Netflix’s track record of compelling music documentaries like “Miss Americana” (Taylor Swift), “Homecoming” (Beyoncé), and “McCartney 3,2,1”, expectations are high for an emotionally resonant and musically rich portrayal.

“The Voice Of Rock – The Glenn Hughes Story” will also delve into Hughes’ spiritual transformation, his ongoing sobriety, and his continued relevance in the rock scene today. As he prepares for another international tour, the documentary comes at a perfect moment to reflect on his lasting legacy.

Netflix has not yet confirmed an official release date, but the film is expected to drop in the summer of 2025. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, it’s set to be a must-watch celebration of a truly unique voice in music history.
