NASCAR Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen was involved in a frightening crash during a Super DIRTcar Series event on Monday night in Canada.
The incident occurred during the King of the North race at Autodrome Drummond in Quebec. While navigating Turn 3, Friesen struck the outside wall and was launched into the air. His car flipped and caught fire as it landed back on the track. According to the Super DIRTcar Series website, Friesen was conscious and speaking with safety personnel before being taken to a nearby hospital.
Early Tuesday morning, his wife, Jessica Friesen, issued a statement confirming that CT scans showed no injuries to his head, neck, or spine, though he remained in severe pain. She revealed that Stewart sustained an unstable pelvic fracture, meaning the pelvis was broken in multiple places, along with a large hematoma in the area. He also suffered a fractured right leg. Both injuries will require surgical intervention, and he has since been moved to a larger hospital for treatment. Jessica said more updates would be provided soon.
Though Friesen mainly competes in the Truck Series where he placed 35th at Indianapolis last Friday he also races in dirt events. He secured his 52nd career Super DIRTcar Series victory just two days earlier at Weedsport Speedway.
