Aleksander Kilde, fiancé of skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin, recently offered a glimpse into his recovery journey following a severe crash last year. The Norwegian skier has been dealing with injuries since a terrifying accident during a World Cup event in Wengen, Switzerland, in January 2024. The crash left him with a dislocated shoulder, a deep calf laceration, and other injuries that required immediate hospitalization.
Despite ongoing rehabilitation, Kilde’s shoulder has not fully healed, leading to another surgery in February 2025. He frequently updates fans on social media about his progress, and in a recent Instagram story, he shared a video of himself performing post-surgery exercises focused on his shoulder and calf.
Shiffrin’s Support and a Heartfelt Message
Throughout Kilde’s recovery, Mikaela Shiffrin has been a constant source of support. She, too, has battled injuries this season but made a remarkable comeback in January 2025, reaching milestones of 100 World Cup victories and 156 podium finishes.
During Kilde’s recent shoulder surgery, Shiffrin shared a touching message about their journey. In an interview with ‘BR24’, she revealed that she had not been able to hug him for over a year due to his injury. Expressing her excitement about finally embracing him again, she emphasized the importance of health over competition:
“In the end, our health and happiness are the most important things. It’s easy to forget that when you’re in the middle of competition and everyone wants to win. But ultimately, it’s something truly special to simply be able to use your arm again. I’m looking forward to giving him a real hug again because it’s been more than a year since we could do that.”
Kilde’s Tribute to Shiffrin
Kilde has also been a strong supporter of Shiffrin throughout her career milestones. After her historic 100th World Cup victory, he shared a heartfelt tribute on social media. Posting a picture of them together, followed by a photo of himself smiling from a hospital bed, he praised her accomplishments:
“Sorry Mikaela, I know you hate the GOAT talk – but sometimes your man should be allowed to brag 🐐. Today you hit your 100th World Cup victory – wow! So proud of you, and good luck to whoever dares to chase that record. But what stands out even more is the person you are every day – that’s far greater than any number of victories. As you best say yourself – ‘it’s just a number.'”
He also mentioned that he watched her race from his hospital bed, just after undergoing what he hopes will be his final shoulder surgery.
Shiffrin and Kilde, who began dating in 2021, got engaged in April 2024. Their unwavering support for each other continues to shine through both triumphs and challenges.
