Darius Adams, a McDonald’s All-American and four-star prospect, has committed to Maryland following his decommitment from UConn, as confirmed by several reports.
Adams, a 6-foot-5 guard ranked No. 29 in ESPN’s Class of 2025 rankings, was one of three UConn signees to participate in this year’s McDonald’s All-American Game. He initially pledged to the Huskies but reconsidered after the team added two veteran guards via the transfer portal Silas Demary Jr. from Georgia and Malachi Smith from Dayton which would likely have limited his playing time as a freshman. UConn is also expected to return wing players Solo Ball, Jaylin Stewart, and Jayden Ross.
In a social media post announcing his decommitment, Adams expressed gratitude and reflected on the difficult decision. “I want to thank God for allowing me to play the game I love. After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to decommit from UConn. I’m grateful to the coaching staff and fans for all the support they’ve given me. This wasn’t easy, but I believe it’s the right move for my future. My recruitment is now open again, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.”
Adams will now suit up for Maryland under new head coach Buzz Williams. Williams, previously at Texas A&M, took over the Terrapins after Kevin Willard departed for Villanova earlier this offseason.
