Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet announce birth of baby ahead of Miami Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen and his partner Kelly Piquet have welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named Lily. The couple confirmed the happy news just before the Miami Grand Prix.

Red Bull Racing announced that Verstappen would miss media duties on Thursday due to the imminent birth but assured fans he would be back at the track for Friday’s sessions. The couple had first revealed their pregnancy ahead of the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi. Baby Lily joins Penelope, Piquet’s daughter from a previous relationship, as her younger sibling.

With this milestone, Verstappen becomes the second father currently competing in Formula 1, alongside Nico Hülkenberg, who has a daughter named Noemi Sky with his wife, Eglė Ruskyte.

When asked in Miami if he had advice for the new dad, Hülkenberg said he hoped the baby would be a good sleeper and reflected on the many wonderful experiences that come with parenthood.

Sharing the press conference with Hülkenberg were Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, both of whom have battled Verstappen on track. Hamilton extended his congratulations and recalled a brief conversation with Verstappen in Saudi Arabia where he noted how thrilled the Dutchman was. Russell echoed the sentiment, acknowledging how meaningful having a child is and suggesting that, while it may not affect Verstappen’s performance, it will certainly enrich his personal life. He added that many successful drivers have balanced fatherhood with winning on track.
