Where LSU Women’s Basketball Stands in Latest Bracketology after Loss to Texas..

The LSU Tigers are still projected as a No. 2 seed in the latest ‘ESPN Bracketology’ update, which was released Saturday night.

Despite falling to Texas a projected No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament semifinals, LSU remains among the top eight teams expected to receive a high seed when the NCAA Tournament bracket is revealed on Sunday, March 16.

The Tigers played without Flau’jae Johnson for the entire game and lost Aneesah Morrow to an ankle injury early in the third quarter. Still, they kept the game close against one of the nation’s best teams. With less than a minute remaining, LSU was within four points, but Texas capitalized on late fouls to secure a seven-point victory.

Charlie Creme, ‘ESPN’s’ bracket expert, updated his projections at 10:35 p.m. EST on Saturday. While there was speculation that LSU’s loss might drop them to a No. 3 seed, Creme still ranks them as a top-eight team. In the women’s tournament, the top three seeds in each region host the first two rounds, meaning LSU would likely play at home in Baton Rouge. According to Creme’s projection, the Tigers would host 15-seed Southeastern Louisiana, 10-seed Nebraska, and 7-seed Oklahoma State.

Region 2, where LSU is projected to land, features several intriguing matchups. The No. 1 seed is USC, led by JuJu Watkins, while Kim Mulkey’s former team, Baylor, holds the No. 4 seed. LSU’s emerging rival, Tennessee, is the No. 5 seed, and Iowa the team LSU has faced in the past two postseasons, including last year’s national championship sits at No. 6. If the Tigers advance, any of these matchups could create compelling storylines.

While LSU’s loss to Texas doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted their seeding, these are still just projections. The real implications of their defeat won’t be known until Selection Sunday.
