Lindsey Vonn reflected on one of her strongest performances in her comeback season, expressing satisfaction despite a costly mistake that kept her off the podium. The American Alpine skier acknowledged that a misstep on one of the turns impacted her final result, but she remained pleased with her progress.
After retiring nearly six years ago, Vonn decided to return to professional skiing following partial knee replacement surgery in April 2024. Her comeback has been marked by steady improvement, and she came close to securing a podium finish at the Kvitfjell Super G in Norway. She recorded the fastest time in the third sector of the race and was on track for a strong finish until a wide turn in the latter half of the course set her back, ultimately placing her 16th overall.
Following the race, Vonn took to Instagram to share her thoughts, emphasizing the progress she had made and thanking her team for their support.
“Progress was made this weekend! I won a few splits, was on pace for a great result today (except for my big mistake!), and I feel like I made progress with my equipment. Itโs kind of like driving an F1 car you have to fine-tune everything through testing, feel, engineers, and trial and error. Huge thanks to @head_rebels for helping me get to where I want to go!” she wrote.
She also celebrated her teammatesโ successes, adding, “Big congrats to the women on this team! Itโs fun to feel the support and energy of everyone pushing each other. Both @breezyjohnsonski and @lauren_macuga got on the podium!”
In a separate Instagram post, Vonn opened up about the challenges of facing criticism during her comeback. She admitted that negative comments had taken a toll on her, but she remained committed to staying positive.
“Iโm not gonna lie, these past few weeks have been tough. I love skiing, and thatโs the only reason I came back to this sportโฆ but there have been so many negative voices. People who donโt believe in me,” she wrote.ย ย
She added that she had received messages doubting her abilities, calling her too old and questioning her decision to return.
“People who say Iโm too old and slow. People who question my character. People who tell me to move over because my time is upโฆ.I know they are only a few voices out of manyโฆ. But it still hurts.”
Despite the criticism, Vonn made it clear that she remains determined to push forward and give her best effort in pursuit of her dreams.
