The basketball world is still buzzing after Tyrese Haliburton’s dramatic game-winner in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, which lifted the Indiana Pacers to a shocking victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Despite being considered strong favorites to win the title, the Thunder squandered a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter, paving the way for Haliburton’s clutch heroics.
Lexie Hull of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever shared her reaction to the shot, saying, “I was on my couch FaceTiming with Sophie [Cunningham] and Caitlin [Clark], and we were all going nuts. It was seriously the coolest moment such a fun time.” Haliburton has proven himself to be a rising star throughout this postseason. He previously nailed a game-winning shot in Game 2 of the second round, helping the Pacers take a 2-0 lead over the 64-win Cleveland Cavaliers.
He also forced overtime in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks with a near three-point buzzer-beater, which allowed the Pacers to go up 2-0 in that series. Although Oklahoma City responded with a 123-107 win in Game 2 of the Finals, the series now shifts to Indianapolis for the next two games fueling speculation that this series could go the full seven games.
As for the Fever, they’re trying to stay afloat with Caitlin Clark sidelined by a quad strain and Sophie Cunningham nursing an ankle injury. They recently ended a three-game skid with a dominant 79-52 win over Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, improving to 4-4 and keeping themselves in playoff contention while awaiting the return of key players.
Clark might be back as soon as Tuesday, when the Fever take on Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream.
