Usain Bolt, the fastest man alive, has hinted at a potential return to the track for a thrilling rematch with some of his fiercest rivals, including Justin Gatlin and Asafa Powell. However, the Jamaican sprint legend has one condition for making a comeback.
Speaking on the ‘Ready Set Go’ podcast, hosted by Bahamian track star Rodney Green and former American rival Gatlin, the 38-year-old expressed that heโs open to racing again but not necessarily against Gatlin. “Iโm ready, just for the fun of it. Iโm ready, letโs go. Itโll be fun,” Bolt said. However, when it came to Gatlin, he hesitated, joking, “Nah man, Justin? Heโs in too good of a shape. I see him doing starts all the time. I even texted him, โBro, why are you in such good shape?โ”
Bolt and Gatlinโs rivalry dates back to the 100m final at the 2012 London Olympics, where Bolt secured victory with an Olympic record of 9.63 seconds, while Gatlin took bronze. However, Gatlin finally bested Bolt at the 2017 World Championships in London, where the Jamaican settled for third place.
While dismissing a direct rematch with Gatlin, Bolt did share his dream race lineup, naming himself alongside Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Maurice Greene, and Ben Johnson. He also included Noah Lyles, saying, “Letโs give Noah the spot just because I would love to race against him.”
From 2008 to 2017, Bolt and his rivals dominated the menโs 100m, creating one of the most thrilling eras in sprinting history. Though his competitive days may be behind him, his openness to a fun rematch has sparked excitement among athletics fans.
