For Southern Illinois linebacker Ben Bogle, choosing West Virginia ultimately came down to finding the right fit.
Bogle, who stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 225 pounds, entered the transfer portal on April 17 and quickly drew interest from several programs, including Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, South Florida, and UNLV. However, a visit to Morgantown on April 23 solidified his commitment to the Mountaineers.
“It just felt like the perfect fit for me, and I really appreciate the culture they’re building,” Bogle explained.
The Florida native spent three seasons at Southern Illinois, where he had a standout 2024 campaign. He started the final ten games and recorded 87 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and two interceptions.
His performance earned him second-team All-Missouri Valley honors and an honorable mention All-American selection.
His efforts also caught the attention of West Virginia’s defensive coordinator Zac Alley and safeties/nickels coach Henry Weinreich two coaches Bogle became close with during his recruitment. “I respect their coaching style and the expectations they set. More importantly, they’re passionate about the game and determined to win,” he said.
At West Virginia, Bogle is expected to play MIKE linebacker, a role similar to what he played at Southern Illinois.
“I already know the system well,” he noted.
Bogle plans to arrive in Morgantown on May 18 and is eager to begin working toward a Big 12 title with his new team.
“I’m thrilled to be joining this program,” he said.
