According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the team is expected to bring in Ray Brown as the new cornerbacks coach, further solidifying their defensive leadership for the 2025 NFL season.
Brown joins the 49ers after serving as the secondary coach at Boston College during the 2024 season under head coach Bill O’Brien. Prior to his time at Boston College, Brown coached cornerbacks at Washington State for two seasons, where he played a key role in developing the team’s defensive backfield. His coaching résumé also includes stints at Utah State, Troy, and Abilene Christian, giving him extensive experience across multiple collegiate programs.
While the 49ers have yet to announce their complete coaching staff for the upcoming season, Brown’s addition signals another strategic move by head coach Kyle Shanahan as the team prepares for 2025. Brown’s background in coaching defensive backs is expected to bring valuable expertise to the 49ers’ secondary, an area that has been a focus for improvement following the 2024 season.
The hiring of Saleh last month marked a significant change for the 49ers’ defense, as he returns to the franchise after previously serving as their defensive coordinator from 2017 to 2020.
