Jorge Martin: “I’ll give my side of the story soon”

Jorge Martin 'back training. I’ll give you my side of the story soon.'

Amid growing speculation about his future with Aprilia, sidelined MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has promised to “share his side of the story soon.” Martin has been absent from the championship since the Qatar round due to multiple injuries, and a surprising conflict has surfaced between him and Aprilia over a reported ‘performance clause’ in his contract that might allow an early exit.

Aprilia responded ahead of the British Grand Prix with a formal statement:

“The contract binding Aprilia Racing and Jorge Martín is currently active and must be upheld by both parties until it expires at the end of 2026. Aprilia Racing has fulfilled all obligations within the agreed terms and will continue to do so.

“There have been no discussions to alter the contract duration. It stands as originally signed.

“The team has no comment on issues outside its direct involvement but expects rival teams to respect existing contracts and refrain from making offers to contracted riders, as such actions would be improper.

“Aprilia remains committed to supporting Jorge through his recovery and looks forward to his return aboard the RS-GP.”

On Saturday, Martin – recovering from 11 fractured ribs and lung injuries sustained in Qatar – shared on Instagram:

“Grateful to be training again! I’ll speak soon and explain everything. It’s been a rough few weeks personally. Thanks to everyone for the support, and enjoy the British GP!”

When asked by Crash.net on Thursday, Martin’s close friend and fellow Aprilia rider Aleix Espargaro, appearing as a wildcard at Silverstone, gave insight into his recovery:

“This past week, Jorge made real progress – he’s walking, getting back to the mountains, doing everyday things. He can’t train yet, but returning to a normal routine is a major step.

“Still, he’s facing mental challenges. It’s a serious injury, and he’s questioning his speed and confidence.

“He’s in a tough spot right now.”

Martin is expected to join the rest of the Aprilia MotoGP team at the All Stars event in Misano early next month.
