While JJ Quinerly’s West Virginia career might not have ended the way she originally envisioned, she undoubtedly left the Mountaineer women’s basketball program stronger than when she arrived and cemented her legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats.
Truthfully, Quinerly’s time in Morgantown was far from conventional. She played under three different head coaches Mike Carey, Dawn Plitzuweit, and Mark Kellogg which created a turbulent environment. Despite having multiple chances to transfer, a move that would have been understandable given the coaching instability, she stayed loyal and earned legendary status.
Just last month, Quinerly was selected in the third round of the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings. She made her professional debut on Friday against the Las Vegas Aces, making an immediate impression with a team-high 16 points.
In only 13 minutes of play, she shot an impressive 7-for-10 from the field and added two rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. Her teammate, No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers, also had a promising debut with 10 points and four rebounds, though she logged nearly twice as many minutes.
Quinerly and the Wings are set to take the court again next Saturday against the Toyota Antelopes, a pro team from Japan.
