JJ Quinerly Leads Wings in WNBA Preseason Debut.

WVU basketball legend JJ Quinerly made a strong impression in her WNBA preseason debut Friday night, leading the Dallas Wings in scoring with 16 points. She delivered the performance in just 13 minutes of play during a 112-78 defeat to the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces. Paige Bueckers, the top overall pick, added 10 points for the Wings.

Quinerly was selected 27th overall in last month’s WNBA Draft, but her place on the team isn’t secured, as final rosters must be trimmed to 11 or 12 players ahead of the regular season. Dallas will wrap up its preseason schedule on Saturday, May 10, before opening the season at home against the Minnesota Lynx on Friday, May 16.

One of the most accomplished players in West Virginia women’s basketball history, Quinerly ranks third all-time at WVU in both scoring and steals. She remained with the Mountaineers through three coaching changes, guiding them to three NCAA Tournament appearances. Her accolades include three All-Big 12 First Team selections, two Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors, and a pair of All-American honorable mentions.

In her final collegiate season, the Virginia native posted a career-best 20.4 points per game, along with 3.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.0 steals. She scored in double figures in every game but one, hit the 20-point mark 14 times, and reached 30 points on three occasions. On Senior Day, she tied WVU’s single-game scoring record with a 38-point performance against Utah.
