During the Tampa Supercross, the energy in the stadium shifted dramatically during the second 450SX Group A qualifying session when Eli Tomac suddenly pulled off the track, favoring his lower left leg.
The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider appeared to have injured himself after dabbing his left knee in a turn. He immediately stopped riding and consulted with the Alpinestars medical team and his mechanic before heading up the tunnel. Shortly after, he was seen limping back to the pits while his mechanic pushed his bike through the dead engines zone, where bikes must be turned off and walked through. A video of the moment shows Tomac making the move that led to his discomfort.
This incident comes just a week after 2024 450SX Champion Jett Lawrence suffered a torn ACL in Arizona from a similar motion, which required surgery and ruled him out for the remainder of the Supercross season.
While it’s unclear what exactly happened, Tomac’s reaction looked eerily similar to when he tore his left Achilles tendon at the 2023 Denver Supercross. However, despite limping, the two-time 450SX champion was able to walk under his own power, which could be a positive sign.
Further updates on his condition will be provided as more information becomes available.

Tomac looked to be struggling in the whoops en route to a seventh place finish in his heat race. He did not appear to have full pressure on his left pegs, which caused him to struggle in the whoops, where he normally excels.
