Caitlin Clark’s return to the Indiana Fever may face further delays. after the star guard suffered a right ankle tweak during a solo workout in Phoenix on August 7, according to multiple reports. Clark has already been sidelined since mid-July with a groin injury, and while the ankle issue raised concerns, team officials stressed it does not change her recovery timeline since no date had been set for her return.
A Fever spokesperson explained that Clark will continue to receive as much time as needed to regain full health, noting her consistent efforts in rehab. This latest ankle scare follows previous right ankle problems, including a sprain against the Connecticut Sun in May and another roll against the Atlanta Dream in August, though she returned to play on both occasions.
Clark, one of the league’s most prominent figures, remains a central focus for the Fever, who are prioritizing her long-term fitness. However, the team was dealt another setback when guard Sophie Cunningham suffered a season-ending knee injury during Sunday’s overtime win. Cunningham, who joined from the Phoenix Mercury, had been an impactful contributor, averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds while posting career-best shooting percentages.
Despite missing two key players, the Fever—at 19-16 under first-year coach Stephanie White—remain firmly in the playoff race.
