Iron Maiden Celebrates 50 Years with New Book, Documentary, and Touring Changes
Iron Maiden is commemorating their 50th anniversary with a series of major announcements, including the release of a definitive visual history book, a feature documentary film, and significant changes to their touring lineup.
### “Infinite Dreams” Book to Chronicle Maiden’s Legacy
In autumn 2025, Thames & Hudson will publish Iron Maiden: Infinite Dreams – The Official Visual History, a comprehensive hardback book detailing the band’s evolution from their 1975 formation to their 2025 Run For Your Lives World Tour. The book features exclusive content, including rare photographs, handwritten lyrics, and insights from band members and management. It also explores the development of their iconic mascot, Eddie, and their elaborate stage productions. The foreword is penned by bassist Steve Harris, with an afterword by vocalist Bruce Dickinson. Harris expressed his excitement over rediscovering archival materials, stating, “I knew I had kept a lot of things from the early days but they have lasted really well and the photography has brought them back to life.”
### Feature Documentary to Premiere in Autumns
To further celebrate their 50th anniversary, Iron Maiden has partnered with Universal Pictures Content Group for an official documentary film, set to release in cinemas worldwide this autumn. Directed by Malcolm Venville and produced by Dominic Freeman, the film will include exclusive interviews with current and former band members, as well as appearances from fans and peers such as Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich, and Gene Simmons. Notably, it will feature the final interview with original vocalist Paul Di’Anno, who passed away in 2024. The documentary aims to provide an “emotive journey” through the band’s history, highlighting their influence on heavy metal and global music culture.
### Nicko McBrain Steps Back from Touring
Drummer Nicko McBrain has announced his retirement from touring with Iron Maiden after 42 years with the band. His decision follows a stroke in 2023 that led to partial paralysis. McBrain expressed his gratitude for the experiences, stating, “Touring with Maiden the last 42 years has been an incredible journey!” He will continue to contribute to the band through various projects and focus on personal ventures. His final performance was on December 7, 2024, in São Paulo, Brazil.
### New Drummer Simon Dawson Announced
Following McBrain’s retirement, Iron Maiden has appointed Simon Dawson as their new touring drummer. Dawson, who has previously played with bassist Steve Harris’s side project British Lion, is described as a “name familiar to many of our fans.” The band expressed confidence in Dawson’s abilities, stating they are “delighted” to have him join the lineup.
### Commitment to Fans: No Dynamic Ticket Pricing
In a move to ensure fairness for their global fanbase, Iron Maiden has confirmed that they will not implement dynamic ticket pricing for their upcoming Run For Your Lives World Tour. This decision means that ticket prices will remain consistent, regardless of demand, allowing fans to purchase tickets at a fair and predictable price. The tour is set to begin on May 27, 2025, in Budapest, Hungary, and will include 27 shows across Europe, with special guests Halestorm and Avatar joining for various dates.
As Iron Maiden embarks on this milestone year, their 50th anniversary celebrations promise to offer fans new insights into the band’s storied history, while also embracing changes that reflect their commitment to the music and their audience.
