Indiana Fever star and NCAA champion Aliyah Boston has joined the ownership group of Boston Legacy FC, the new NWSL franchise, the club announced Monday. She joins other high-profile investors including Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, actress Elizabeth Banks, and Celtics executive Brad Stevens and his wife, Tracy.
Boston, 23, who began her basketball journey in the U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to Massachusetts at age 12, starred at Worcester Academy, where her No. 00 jersey was the first to be retired. “I’m honored to be part of the Boston Legacy ownership,” she said. “This city played a huge role in my growth, and it’s special to invest in a team that’s building something meaningful for athletes and women’s sports.” She added playfully, “Boston repping Boston just felt right!”
A South Carolina graduate and 2022 NCAA champion, Boston was drafted No. 1 overall by the Fever in 2023. She earned WNBA Rookie of the Year honors and has made the All-Star team in each of her pro seasons. She also competed in the inaugural season of the Unrivaled basketball league with Vinyl BC.
Legacy’s controlling owner, Jennifer Epstein, praised Boston’s involvement, highlighting the growing influence of women athletes in shaping the future of professional sports. “Aliyah brings a winning mindset and valuable player insight to our investor group,” Epstein said.
Boston’s Fever teammate Caitlin Clark previously backed a failed NWSL expansion bid in Cincinnati, losing out to a Denver-based group.
Boston Legacy FC recently signed striker Aïssata Traoré, the first Malian player in NWSL history, and Annie Karich. Both are currently on loan until preseason starts in January. In June, the club appointed Filipa Patão, formerly of Benfica, as its first head coach.
The team also unveiled plans for a $27 million training facility in Brockton, Massachusetts, ahead of its 2026 debut. The 24-acre complex will include state-of-the-art training spaces, six fields, and community access, with local officials, including Mayor Robert Sullivan, expressing strong support. Due to construction delays at White Stadium, the club’s inaugural season will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
