The Indiana Fever have bolstered their injury-ravaged roster by signing 10-year WNBA veteran Aerial Powers to a seven-day hardship contract.
The team announced the deal on August 23 via press release and social media, with Powers sharing her excitement on Instagram by reposting the announcement and writing, “Pinch me!! So excited!!! Lets goooooo @Indianafever.”
Indiana’s season, once filled with championship hopes, has been derailed by injuries. Star rookie Caitlin Clark has been sidelined since July 15 with lower leg issues and recently suffered an ankle setback during rehab, according to the Indy Star. The team also lost Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald to season-ending injuries on August 7, followed by Sophie Cunningham’s MCL tear on August 17.
In response, Indiana has added several reinforcements in recent weeks, including Odyssey Sims, Shey Peddy, and now Powers. The latest signing was made possible after Cunningham’s injury opened up another hardship spot, with Chloe Bibby—originally signed under such a deal—also unavailable for the August 22 game against Minnesota due to injury.
