The Indiana Fever are entering a crucial stretch that will determine their playoff fate and standing in the WNBA. Despite a season marked by highs and lows, they’ve managed to remain steady in the rankings. But with the league standings tightly packed, every remaining game carries major implications.
Currently in 6th place after a short-handed loss to the Dallas Wings, the Fever could still climb higher or slip lower. If the playoffs started today, they’d face defending champion New York Liberty in the first round, but the situation is fluid. Indiana is only three games behind New York and 3.5 behind the No. 2 seed, yet just two games ahead of the eighth spot and 2.5 ahead of ninth — a position that would eliminate them from playoff contention.
With 11 games left, upcoming matchups include Washington Mystics, Connecticut Sun, and two consecutive games against the top-ranked Minnesota Lynx, followed by the Seattle Storm on August 26.
If Caitlin Clark returns to practice after next week’s break, those Lynx games and the Storm contest could mark her comeback.

While some fans may be anxious about the tight playoff race, the team is still in position to finish strong. Considering Clark’s extended injury absence and other hurdles, many would have counted them out early.
Instead, they’ve stayed competitive and are poised for a solid finish. Clark’s return would be a huge boost, so the Fever’s priority is to avoid a late-season collapse and stay in the hunt for a playoff push. They’ve battled all year and the fight isn’t over yet.
