UConn Huskies star guard Paige Bueckers has long been regarded as one of the elite players in women’s college basketball, but her performance during the 2025 NCAA Tournament has elevated her to new heights.
Over her last three games, Bueckers has averaged an impressive 35 points per contest, highlighted by a career-best 40-point effort against Oklahoma. However, her biggest challenge awaits on Friday, when the No. 2 seed Huskies take on the top-seeded UCLA Bruins in the Final Four.
If there’s a coach capable of crafting a strategy to contain Bueckers, it’s UCLA’s Cori Close the newly crowned Naismith and AP National Coach of the Year. Yet, even she acknowledged the difficulty of the task during media availability on April 3.
“Paige has incredible charisma… she’s an extremely efficient scorer,” Close said, via @creampuffs_5 on X. “But what stands out to me most is her vision and passing it’s just remarkable. She’s an amazing player and an even better teammate. I have a ton of respect and admiration for her.”
Fans will be watching closely to see how Bueckers handles the Bruins’ defense and whether she can lead UConn into the national championship game.

One thing is certain: with a maximum of two games left in her college career, Bueckers is nearing the end of her time at UConn before heading to the WNBA.
