INDIANAPOLIS – Odyssey Sims is no stranger to the energy of Indiana Fever fans, she experienced it firsthand in 2024 while playing for the Dallas Wings. Now, she’ll have that same crowd on her side after signing a regular hardship contract with Indiana on Sunday, following season-ending injuries to Sydney Colson (left ACL) and Aari McDonald (right foot). With Caitlin Clark (right groin) still sidelined since mid-July, the Fever were left without a healthy point guard in their recent win over Chicago, forcing Kelsey Mitchell and Sophie Cunningham to play out of position.
Sims, who will debut for Indiana on Tuesday, is expected to fill that gap, allowing Mitchell and Cunningham to return to their usual roles. Coach Stephanie White praised Sims’ ability to create shots, facilitate offense, and stay composed under pressure, saying her skill set is exactly what the team needs.
The 32-year-old guard has built a career on adaptability, having played for six WNBA teams and often joining midseason on short notice including stints last year with Dallas and Los Angeles. After arriving in Indianapolis on Sunday, Sims participated in just one practice before her debut, with the Fever planning to simplify their playbook for her as they did with McDonald earlier this season.
Sims isn’t worried about the quick turnaround, noting she adjusts quickly to new teams and enjoys the Fever’s up-tempo style. She could remain with Indiana for the rest of the season, as her hardship contract isn’t subject to the 10-player limit of emergency deals. Even after Clark’s return, Sims could serve as a key backup point guard.
Excited to join the Fever, Sims said she’s committed to contributing however she can down the stretch. “I’ve been smiling since I got here,” she said. “I just want to pour into my teammates, win games, and get ready for the playoffs.”
