Iga Swiatek halts on-court Cincinnati Open interview as star baffled after making final.

Iga Swiatek advanced to the Cincinnati Open final after defeating Elena Rybakina, though her post-match interview turned into a lighthearted moment of confusion. The world No. 1 edged a tight first set 7-5 before cruising through the second 6-3, setting up a title clash against either Veronika Kudermetova or Jasmine Paolini.

While speaking courtside, Swiatek suddenly paused mid-answer, convinced she felt raindrops. “Wait, rain?” she asked in puzzlement, only for the interviewer to joke that it was probably just a bit of spit from their question. Still bemused, Swiatek laughed it off, saying she must have imagined thunder.

Reflecting on the match, the Pole praised the high pace of play and her ability to stay sharp: “The level was really intense at the beginning, super fast, sometimes we couldn’t even reach the second ball. But I kept my focus and I’m very happy with how I performed.” Looking ahead to the final, she noted the challenge awaiting her: “Whoever I face will be tough, so I need to stay tactical, stick to my game, and keep building on the progress I’ve made this week.”

She also expressed her gratitude to the Cincinnati fans: “It feels so good here. People are really kind, and we get to feel peaceful off the court. Thanks for supporting us—see you tomorrow!”

Swiatek now has the chance to claim her first WTA 1000 crown since winning in Rome last year. Meanwhile, the men’s final promises another showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, reprising their last two Grand Slam battles.
