Huge Duke Basketball Loss: Five-Star Signee Suddenly Decommits..

The 2025 Duke basketball recruiting collection no longer reigns supreme.

Duke basketball and Shelton Henderson, a standout forward from Bellaire High School in Texas and an early commit to the Blue Devils, have mutually decided to part ways, according to a report from 247Sports’ Travis Branham late Thursday. Henderson, who committed to Duke head coach Jon Scheyer last November and officially signed shortly after, has now been released from his financial agreement with the program and will reopen his recruitment.

Before the announcement, Henderson was one of four five-star prospects in Duke’s 2025 recruiting class. He is currently ranked No. 21 overall, No. 4 among small forwards, and No. 2 in Texas in the 247Sports 2025 Composite rankings. The remaining three five-star commits Nikolas Khamenia from Harvard-Westlake (CA), and brothers Cameron and Cayden Boozer from Columbus High School (FL) are all McDonald’s All Americans.

Additionally, on Thursday, Branham predicted that five-star forward Nate Ament from Highland School (VA) is now likely to commit to Tennessee, despite Duke previously being considered the frontrunner for his recruitment.

Overall, it’s been a tough stretch for Duke on the recruiting front.
