South Carolina is undergoing a roster overhaul after reaching the 2025 NCAA Tournament championship game, and head coach Dawn Staley is moving swiftly to fill the gaps. The Gamecocks lost key contributors Bree Hall, Sania Feagin, and Te-Hina Paopao all of whom entered the WNBA after using up their college eligibility. Additionally, Sakima Walker and MiLaysia Fulwiley have entered the transfer portal.
Staley has already begun reloading the roster. Former Florida State guard Ta’Niya Latson, the nation’s leading scorer, has committed to South Carolina. High school standouts Agot Makeer and Ayla McDowell have also pledged to join the three-time national champions as freshmen. But the recruiting push isn’t over former Mississippi State star Madina Okot recently visited the campus, sparking fan excitement.
Talia Goodman of On3 reported Okot’s visit on Saturday via X (formerly Twitter), prompting an outpouring of fan reactions. Comments included excitement over a potential powerhouse starting five featuring Raven Johnson, Latson, Chloe Kitts, Joyce Edwards, and Okot. Some fans even joked about Staley’s aggressive recruiting, calling it “scary hours” if she lands Okot.
Okot, a 6-foot-6 center, averaged 11.3 points and 9.6 rebounds last season. Her potential pairing with Latson could elevate South Carolina’s position in the transfer portal rankings, where they currently sit third.
In coaching news, the Gamecocks announced the addition of Wendale Farrow as an assistant coach on Friday. Farrow, who spent four years at USC, replaces Winston Grady, who recently became head coach at Grand Canyon University. Farrow brings over ten years of coaching experience from various conferences.
