Few people are closer to Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland than Ross Hodge, the new head coach at West Virginia. The two have been best friends for years, and while McCasland is thrilled for Hodge to get this opportunity, he would have preferred it to be outside the Big 12.
“I love him, but I’m not happy about it,” McCasland told ‘365 Sports’. “I told Wren (Baker) that I couldn’t think of a better person for the job, but honestly, he just made my life miserable because he’s that good. I say that with the utmost respect. We started out together when we were young, and honestly, his winning percentage is better than mine. He’s achieved success faster at every place we’ve coached together. There’s no doubt he’ll win at West Virginia.”

Hodge served as McCasland’s associate head coach for seven years at Arkansas State and North Texas, helping lead both programs to a combined 155-77 record. After McCasland moved to Texas Tech, Hodge took over at North Texas, compiling a 46-23 record in two seasons. He now has a chance to add to his win total in the upcoming NIT.
