Four-Star Offensive Lineman, Former Vols Commit, Schedules Another Trip to Tennessee…

Tennessee football may be back in the mix for a familiar face on the recruiting trail. Four-star offensive lineman Max Anderson, a former Vols commit, has scheduled another unofficial visit to Knoxville, signaling that Josh Heupel and his staff might still have a shot at landing the standout blocker.

Anderson, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman out of Frisco, Texas, originally committed to the Volunteers in early 2023. A top-200 national prospect according to multiple recruiting services, Anderson was seen as a key piece of Tennessee’s future in the trenches. However, he decommitted later that year, citing a desire to re-evaluate his options and explore other programs more thoroughly.

Despite the change of heart, Tennessee has remained in consistent communication with Anderson, and his upcoming visit—scheduled for the weekend of June 14—shows the interest is mutual. It will be his second trip to Rocky Top in the past year and a clear sign that the door isn’t closed on a reunion between the Vols and the elite lineman.

Sources close to Anderson say his relationship with Tennessee offensive line coach Glen Elarbee remains strong, and the program’s fast-paced offensive scheme still appeals to him. The Vols’ recent success developing linemen for the NFL, coupled with their upward trajectory under Heupel, continues to make Tennessee an attractive option for high-profile recruits like Anderson.

Since reopening his recruitment, Anderson has taken visits to Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Michigan, among others. Texas has also emerged as a strong contender. However, Tennessee’s persistence and the fact that he’s giving them another look suggests that the Vols are still very much in the hunt.

The upcoming visit will be critical for Tennessee’s chances to get back in the race. Anderson is expected to make a final decision before the start of his senior season this fall, meaning the next two months could be decisive. A strong impression during this trip could help the Vols vault back into his top group—or even regain his commitment.

Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class currently ranks in the top 10 nationally, and adding a player of Anderson’s caliber would only boost that standing. With several offensive linemen already on board, the Vols are building a foundation up front, but Anderson would be a true cornerstone piece.

If Tennessee can show him a clear development plan, continued offensive success, and the right fit both on and off the field, a flip back to the Vols isn’t out of the question. The next visit could be pivotal.

For now, Tennessee fans have reason to watch closely. The Vols may have lost Anderson once, but they’re not giving up—and it looks like he’s not either.
