Former Alabama QB revealed why Tide will have big bounce-back year.

Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy believes the Crimson Tide are poised for a strong comeback in the 2025 season, thanks to their experienced roster and renewed team spirit under second-year head coach Kalen DeBoer.

McElroy’s optimism stems from key players choosing to return instead of entering the NFL draft, which he sees as a sign of the team’s commitment to rebuilding Alabama’s winning reputation:

“A lot of what has made me very bullish on Alabama is having guys that could go to the NFL deciding to return even though they don’t necessarily have to. That’s big,” he said.

He also highlighted a stronger sense of leadership and unity in the locker room, with players determined to reshape the program’s narrative:

“The leadership on this roster, they feel really good about it. They’re really unified and anxious to rewrite the messaging about what Alabama is capable of,” McElroy added.

Another key factor in Alabama’s potential resurgence is their returning talent on both sides of the ball. McElroy pointed to star wide receiver Ryan Williams and a solid offensive line as assets for the 2025 campaign. However, he believes it is the defense, led by second-year defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, that will be Alabama’s greatest strength.

“They have nine starters returning on defense, and most were underclassmen last year. People feel really good about what’s coming back,” he said.

McElroy also emphasized the importance of Ryan Grubb, the new offensive coordinator, whose impact should not be underestimated:

“The addition of Ryan Grubb on offense cannot be understated. With the continuity on defense and Grubb’s influence on the offense, they should be poised for a big bounce-back year.”

Despite a challenging schedule, McElroy believes Alabama’s returning experience, leadership, and improved cohesion position them well for a strong 2025 season under DeBoer’s leadership.
