Mark Matthews, a five-star offensive lineman in the 2027 class, holds 28 scholarship offers, including one from Florida State, which he received in February. He followed up with an unofficial visit to Tallahassee two months later.
Despite not having spent much time at FSU, Matthews has identified the Seminoles as one of the top programs actively recruiting him.
“FSU, Tennessee, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan are really standing out right now,” Matthews told Rivals.
He also plans to visit a long list of schools throughout the season, including FSU, LSU, Miami, Florida, Ohio State, Clemson, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and possibly Nebraska and Oregon.
According to Rivals, Matthews is ranked as the No. 6 overall player in the nation, the No. 2 offensive lineman, and the second-best prospect in Florida.
His visit to Florida State in April made a strong impression, especially due to the involvement of head coach Mike Norvell.
“It was the coaches,” Matthews said. “I liked how hands-on Coach Norvell was during practice he even got me involved. That really stood out to me.”
With numerous elite programs pursuing him, FSU will need to stay aggressive in their recruitment efforts.
