As Caitlin Clark made a powerful return from injury for the Indiana Fever, attention was also on the Indiana Pacers, who dropped Game 4 of the NBA Finals to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. Clark, a strong supporter of the Pacers, was in attendance for the game but ultimately left early to focus on her own highly anticipated return to the court.
Clark had been sidelined for two weeks and was preparing for her first game back with the Fever, so she made the decision to leave before the Pacers’ game concluded. Still, she expressed unwavering support for the team, showing confidence that they can bounce back in the series.
“I didn’t stay the whole time. I’m not gonna lie to you,” Clark said, when asked about her presence at the Pacers’ game. “I wasn’t gonna miss the game. But also, you know, this [Fever game] is my focus. And I have to prepare for this. So I went home and watched the film, went over the rest of our scout, and I was asleep. I watched the end, but then I went to sleep right away.”
Her comments highlight the tough balance professional athletes often face between supporting fellow teams and staying focused on their own responsibilities. Had the Fever’s game been scheduled later, Clark mentioned she might have stayed longer to support the Pacers in person.
Clark, who has always shown pride in Indiana’s basketball culture, remains confident in the Pacers’ title hopes. Speaking to Scott Agness, she reaffirmed her belief in their ability to win it all, stating she’s “very confident” they can still come out on top.
“It was a great game, fun game for the Pacers,” she said. “And I feel still very confident in their ability to win it all.”
Meanwhile, Clark’s return to the WNBA was nothing short of electric. Her comeback performance was closely watched and well-received by fans, adding another chapter to her rapidly rising professional career. While the Fever will look to build momentum with Clark back on the court, the Pacers now face increased pressure in the Finals, where each game carries massive stakes.
Clark’s dual focus supporting the Pacers while staying locked in on her own journey underscores the interconnected spirit of Indiana basketball. As both teams press forward, Clark’s optimism reflects a shared goal: winning at the highest level.
