As Cadillac inches closer to its Formula 1 debut in 2026, the race to finalize their driver lineup is heating up. Among those under consideration are seasoned names like Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez. However, an interesting development emerged at the British Grand Prix: team principal Graeme Lowdon confirmed that talks have also taken place with Mick Schumacher.
Silverstone, often a hub of technical upgrades due to its proximity to many F1 team bases, also serves as a convenient venue for senior personnel like Aston Martin’s Adrian Newey to attend. For Cadillac, it was the perfect setting to continue driver discussions.
With the summer break fast approaching and the driver market expected to become increasingly dynamic, Cadillac can’t afford to wait much longer. Bottas, for instance, is attracting attention from other teams, including Alpine. If Cadillac wants to secure top-tier talent, they’ll need to act quickly.
Currently, Bottas, Perez, and Zhou Guanyu are leading candidates to join the American outfit, though outsiders like Yuki Tsunoda could also come into play depending on market developments. Schumacher’s talks with the team in Silverstone further highlight the fluidity of the situation.
Lowdon praised Schumacher in an interview with Sky Germany, calling him “a very nice guy” with valuable F1 experience. Despite his absence from a full-time seat in recent seasons, Schumacher has remained involved through testing and has shown enthusiasm for the Cadillac project a quality the team appreciates.
The driver market, once predicted to be relatively quiet this season, is now filled with uncertainty. Openings at major teams like Mercedes, Red Bull, VCARB, and Alpine could trigger a domino effect. Cadillac, still without any confirmed drivers for 2026, must stay alert to seize opportunities.
Whether they lock in both drivers simultaneously or stagger their announcements remains unclear. While Schumacher may still be considered a long shot, the unpredictability of the current market could swing momentum in his favor.
