Ex-NFL QB Bridgewater says he is suspended from high school coaching for giving benefits to players.

MIAMI — Former NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater says he has been suspended from his coaching role at Miami Northwestern High School after providing financial support to players a move he claims he openly reported to the school.

Bridgewater, 32, shared news of the suspension in a social media post, where he also expressed his continued commitment to the team. “I’m not going anywhere,” he wrote. “If I have to, I’ll volunteer from the bleachers like I did back in 2018 and 2019 when no one had an issue.”

Attempts to reach school officials for comment on Monday went unanswered.

Bridgewater returned to his alma mater last season as head coach and helped lead the team to a Class 3A state title before signing with the Detroit Lions in late December as a backup quarterback. He made a brief postseason appearance, completing a single pass for three yards during a divisional-round loss to the Washington Commanders.

In an earlier post, Bridgewater admitted he had covered transportation, meals, and medical treatments for his players last season. This year, he turned to donations to help fund those same needs. He emphasized that the financial assistance had been disclosed to school officials.

Bridgewater, who was drafted 32nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014 after a standout college career at Louisville, played in 79 regular-season NFL games over a decade-long career. He had stints with six different franchises: Minnesota, New Orleans, Carolina, Miami, Denver, and Detroit.

Despite the suspension, Bridgewater’s message was clear his commitment to mentoring and supporting student-athletes at his former school remains unchanged.
