Eva Jess Sets Texas Women’s 5,000-Meter School Record at David Hemery Valentine Invitational..

BOSTON/CLEMSON – Eva Jess made history for the Texas track and field program over the weekend, smashing the school’s women’s 5,000-meter record with a 30-second personal best at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Jess clocked in at 15:45.67, surpassing Sara Sutherland’s 12-year-old record. Teammate Sydni Wilkin also impressed, running 16:23.79 to claim ninth on UT’s all-time performer list.

Elizabeth Stockman recorded a four-second personal best in the mile, finishing in 4:40.58 – the fifth-fastest time in school history and placing her fourth on UT’s all-time list. Additional Longhorns in the mile included Kyra Pretre (4:46.07), Mackenzie Browne (4:47.18), Aishling Callanan (4:49.51), and Kaylin Rendon (4:55.69). In the 3,000-meter race, Elizabeth Pickett secured the eighth-fastest time in program history with a finish of 9:16.98.

At the Tiger Paw Invite in Clemson, Nina Ndubuisi won the women’s shot put with a personal best throw of 18.35m (60-2.50), placing her second on UT’s all-time list behind Michelle Carter. Chrystal Herpin finished sixth with a throw of 16.39m (53-9.25).

In the 200-meter dash, Carleta Bernard led UT with a time of 23.33, while freshman Holly Okuku set a personal best of 23.36. Other notable finishes included Ramiah Elliott (23.48), Micayah Holland (23.67), Nita Koom-Dadzie (23.78), and Akala Garrett.

On the men’s side, John Rutledge secured eighth place in the 200 meters with a time of 20.89. Amity Ebarb led the Texas women in the 800 meters with a personal best of 2:07.93, while freshmen Gia Kurp (2:13.36) and Grace Kowalski (2:14.31) finished 25th and 27th.

In the men’s shot put open, freshman Brandon Schirck finished ninth with a throw of 16.07m (52-8.75), while Michael Pinones took second in the shot put invite with a personal best of 18.89m (61-11.75).

Sam Hurley cleared 5.40m (17-8.50) on his third attempt to place third in the men’s pole vault invite, with Sam Abati finishing fourth at 5.25m (17-2.75).

The men’s 4×400-meter relay team of Amir Thompson, Rutledge, Xavier Butler, and Logan Popelka clocked a season-best 3:06.75 – the 16th-fastest time in UT history.
