What Emma Raducanu said after her last match with Amanda Anisimova could be a worry for Canadian Open clash.

Emma Raducanu is gearing up for a challenging third-round match against Amanda Anisimova at the Canadian Open.

The British No. 1 has carried her strong Wimbledon form into this tournament, notching victories over Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Peyton Stearns. Her impressive performances suggest she’s on track to earn a seeding for the upcoming US Open, the season’s final Grand Slam.

However, her next opponent fifth seed Anisimova poses a tough test. Despite holding a strong head-to-head record against the American, Raducanu admits playing her friend isn’t easy. The two share a friendship off the court, which Raducanu says complicates their on-court encounters.

Following her win over Anisimova at the 2025 Australian Open, Raducanu said: “It’s incredibly difficult whenever you play a friend,” and added that it brings an unwelcome emotional layer to the match. She also defeated Anisimova in their other meeting at the Miami Open.

Anisimova has spoken warmly about Raducanu in the past, calling her “a friend” and noting that they’ve come up through the tour together, being the same age.

Both players will need to put their personal bond aside when they face off on Friday, August 1, for a spot in the fourth round in Montreal. The official match time is still to be confirmed.
