Dukes Remain in Fourth at A-10 Championship After Day Two…

Duquesne University’s track and field team maintained its hold on fourth place following the second day of competition at the 2025 Atlantic 10 (A-10) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted this year at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia.

With several strong performances across both track and field events, the Dukes continue to battle among a competitive field of conference rivals, trailing only behind traditional powerhouses Rhode Island, UMass, and VCU in the team standings.

Head coach Carl Dannenberg expressed measured optimism as his squad prepares for the final day of events. “We’ve had some great efforts today, and we’re proud of how our athletes are showing up,” said Dannenberg. “We’re in a solid position, but tomorrow will be critical if we want to make a podium push.”

Day Two Highlights

The Dukes were anchored by standout performances from both veterans and emerging stars.

Senior sprinter Maya Jackson advanced to the finals in the 200m dash with a personal best time of 24.12 seconds, placing her second overall in the preliminary round. Jackson, who also contributed to the 4×100 relay team’s season-best finish earlier in the day, credited her success to a sharp focus on recovery and race execution. “Coach always says ‘run your race, not theirs.’ That’s what I did today,” she said.

In the distance events, sophomore Ava Martin turned in a gutsy performance in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing fourth with a time of 10:39.55 — just three seconds off her personal best. Her point-scoring run helped solidify Duquesne’s standing heading into the final day.

Field events also saw strong contributions. Junior thrower Emily Rouse placed fifth in the javelin, adding valuable points with a toss of 41.88 meters. Meanwhile, freshman high jumper Jordan Clarke cleared 1.70m to earn a share of sixth place in her A-10 debut.

Looking Ahead

The final day of the A-10 Championship promises a full slate of finals, including the 100m, 200m, and 800m races, along with relays and several field events. The Dukes have multiple athletes seeded well, particularly in the 800m and triple jump, where senior Darnell Simmons is expected to contend for the title.

“We’ve got the right mindset heading into the last day,” said senior captain Claire Jennings. “We just need to stay locked in and execute what we’ve trained for all season.”

With 24 events scored through Day Two, Duquesne stands with 52 total points. The team’s fourth-place standing reflects both its depth and consistency across a variety of events.

The A-10 Championship concludes tomorrow, with team scores finalized after the last event. Fans can follow live results on the A-10 website or stream the action on ESPN+.
