DOUBLE SIGNING: Marissa Kastanek Joins Nebraska Women’s Basketball Program with a Double Signing…..
The Nebraska women’s basketball program has made a major addition to its coaching staff and player development structure with the announcement of a double signing that includes former professional player and rising coaching star Marissa Kastanek. This move not only brings an experienced basketball mind into the fold but also signals the Huskers’ commitment to elevating the program on and off the court.
Marissa Kastanek, a former standout at NC State and a veteran of European professional leagues, joins the Cornhuskers as part of a strategic double signing that adds depth to both the coaching staff and the player roster. Nebraska head coach Amy Williams lauded the move as a pivotal step toward building a championship-caliber program.
“Marissa brings a unique blend of playing experience, coaching insight, and leadership that will greatly benefit our student-athletes,” Williams said. “Her understanding of the game and her passion for player development are exactly what we need as we continue to raise the bar.”
Kastanek, who played professionally in Poland and Germany after a stellar collegiate career, has built a reputation for her high basketball IQ and relentless work ethic. She was the 2012 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and ranks among NC State’s all-time leaders in three-point shooting and steals. After retiring from professional play, Kastanek transitioned into coaching, where she quickly made an impact, most recently serving in player development and assistant coaching roles across Europe.
The “double signing” also refers to the addition of an international recruit—whose name is yet to be officially announced—who comes from the same basketball network that Kastanek has been deeply involved with overseas. The dual announcement is part of a broader global recruiting strategy Nebraska has begun to implement in recent years.
The incoming international player is expected to bring versatility, strong fundamentals, and a European-style basketball IQ that complements Nebraska’s current roster. Kastanek’s connection to the player and her familiarity with international basketball systems were instrumental in sealing the deal.
“This is more than just a coaching hire,” said Athletic Director Trev Alberts. “It’s a strategic move that strengthens our recruiting pipeline and brings in someone who truly understands how to mentor young women in both the athletic and personal aspects of college life.”
The Huskers, coming off a season where they showed flashes of strong play but lacked consistency, hope this double signing serves as a turning point. With Kastanek’s tactical acumen on the sideline and a promising new recruit joining the team, expectations are growing for a stronger performance in the upcoming season.
Marissa Kastanek is expected to begin her duties immediately, including participation in offseason training camps and overseas scouting initiatives. As the Huskers look to rise in the Big Ten standings, the program believes this unique dual addition may be the catalyst it needs to break through.
This double signing not only underscores Nebraska’s commitment to excellence but also showcases the program’s evolving global vision—one that blends seasoned leadership with emerging international talent.
