World record holder Tobi Amusan delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Paris Diamond League on Friday, clocking a season-best 12.24 seconds to secure second place in the women’s 100m hurdles.
The mark stands as the second-fastest time of her career, trailing only her world record of 12.12s set in 2022.
Amusan surged late in the race, rapidly closing in on American Grace Stark, who had exploded out of the blocks and held on for victory with a personal best and meet record of 12.21s making her the fifth-fastest woman in history over the distance. Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent took third with a sharp 12.30s. For Amusan, this performance marks a significant milestone in a steadily building return to top form during the 2025 season.
Her campaign began with modest finishes fourth in Xiamen (12.74s) and another fourth in Shaoxing (12.66s). But she rebounded impressively, claiming her first Diamond League win of the season in Rabat with a meet record 12.45s.
Paris was Amusan’s fourth Diamond League appearance of the year, and she’s clearly building momentum as the major championships approach. The 2022 world champion faced a stacked field, which included medalists like Keni Harrison, Jamaica’s Nugent, Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas, and Diamond League leader Grace Stark.
Despite the depth of talent, Amusan’s growing consistency and elite-level experience positioned her as a formidable contender. Her second-place finish earned crucial points in the race to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich. She now sits fourth in the overall standings with 10 points, trailing Stark (23), Danielle Williams (15), and Marione Fourie (12).
With the World Championships drawing near, Amusan appears to be rounding into peak form setting the stage for a thrilling chase for gold and potentially another historic performance.
