In the early hours of January 16, 2025, LSU freshman quarterback Colin Hurley was involved in a serious single-vehicle accident near the university’s campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Around 2:45 a.m., Hurley’s 2021 Dodge Charger veered off Highland Road and collided with a tree near the intersection of South Quad Drive. Emergency responders found Hurley unresponsive but breathing, with a significant facial laceration. He was promptly transported to Our Lady of the Lake Health for medical treatment.
Surveillance footage reviewed by LSU Police indicated that Hurley’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash. Tire marks at the scene suggested an attempt to brake prior to the collision. Importantly, no alcohol or drugs were discovered in the vehicle, and impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor.
In a statement released through LSU Athletics, Hurley’s family expressed gratitude towards the first responders and medical staff, noting that Colin was resting and in stable condition while undergoing further tests and care. They conveyed confidence in his full recovery from the accident.
Colin Hurley, a 17-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, joined LSU’s football program as part of the 2024 recruiting class. He reclassified to enroll early and did not participate in any games during the 2024 season, serving as a redshirt. Hurley was ranked as the No. 22 quarterback and a four-star recruit by 247Sports.
The incident remains under investigation by LSU Police to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash. As Hurley continues his recovery, the LSU community and fans await further updates on his health and future with the team.
