
Most recently, she guided the Gamecocks to the national championship game, securing wins over Tennessee Tech, Indiana, Maryland, Duke, and Texas on the way. Although South Carolina fell to the UConn Huskies in the final, the team’s five NCAA Tournament victories marked yet another impressive season under Staley’s leadership. Following the season, as she and her staff turned their focus to another title pursuit, Staley also celebrated her 55th birthday.
To mark the occasion, associate head coach Lisa Boyer shared a heartfelt tribute to Staley. Posting on X, Boyer called her colleague an “incredible human being” and “ONE OF ONE,” adding, “It’s time to wish our best girl @dawnstaley a VERY VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Many know her as ‘Coach’ but she is an incredible human being. ONE OF ONE!!! Love me some Dawnnie:):) Enjoy your day my friend.”
Boyer has worked alongside Staley since 2008, first serving as assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach in 2010. Before joining South Carolina, Boyer coached at several institutions including Virginia Tech, Davidson, Miami, and East Carolina.
Since arriving at South Carolina in 2008, Staley has built a remarkable legacy, leading the program to three national titles, seven Final Four appearances, and an impressive collection of SEC championships nine regular-season and nine tournament titles cementing her place among the greatest coaches in women’s basketball history.
