source: Staley Sends Strong Message to Departing South Carolina Transfer..

The South Carolina Gamecocks have seen major roster changes following their loss to the UConn Huskies in the 2024-25 NCAA national championship game on April 6.

Three players were selected in the 2025 WNBA Draft: guard Te-Hina Paopao (picked No. 18 by the Atlanta Dream), veteran Bree Hall (No. 20 to the Indiana Fever), and post player Sania Feagin (No. 21 to the Los Angeles Sparks).

In terms of additions, coach Dawn Staley welcomed two standout transfers — Ta’Niya Latson, last season’s NCAA scoring leader from Florida State, and Madina Okot, a center from Mississippi State.

However, it’s the players leaving the program who have drawn the most attention, especially star guard MiLaysia Fulwiley, who announced on April 25 that she’s transferring to SEC rival LSU. Senior center Sakima Walker also entered the transfer portal and, a day later, committed to Cal. She shared the news on X, posting photos in a Cal jersey with the caption: “Trusting God’s plan EVERY step of the way. Grateful for where I’ve been, excited for where I’m going. #GoBears #thisonespersonal.”

Coach Staley quickly responded to Walker’s post, showing her support by commenting, “All you Kim! Cali is up and so are you!”

While Staley seems thrilled for Walker, it remains to be seen whether she’ll publicly address Fulwiley’s decision to join LSU, South Carolina’s SEC rival.
