Dawn Staley makes feelings clear to South Carolina after Paige Bueckers humbling.

Dawn Staley has sent a strong message to her South Carolina team about what she expects this season after being humbled by Paige Bueckers and UConn in last year’s national championship.

Following their dominant 112–31 preseason victory over Anderson, where all players scored and five reached double figures led by Joyce Edwards’ 27 points  Staley spoke about her vision for the team moving forward, especially as they adjust to life without Chloe Kitts.

Despite the lopsided win, Staley emphasized growth and smarter play during the preseason. “I want us to stay aggressive some of us were great about taking shots, and I don’t want to take that away,” she told reporters. “But I also want us to see the options on the floor. Someone like Ta’Niya Latson will always draw defenders, so she needs to recognize what’s happening outside that crowd. If she still wants to take the shot, fine, but she should also know the passing lanes are there. It’s about reading the game better.”

Her remarks come shortly after she shared her thoughts on the ongoing WNBA labor talks an issue close to her heart, given many former Gamecocks now play in the league.

Staley’s message was clear: after last season’s heartbreak, she expects a smarter, more connected, and relentless South Carolina team ready to chase redemption.
