Dawn Staley Finds a Bright Side in Fever’s Season-Ending Injury Roster Change.

South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley got optimistic about news that stemmed from another Indiana Fever player's season-ending injury.

The Indiana Fever’s season has been defined by injuries, and “rough” might be putting it lightly.

Star guard Caitlin Clark has only managed to appear in 13 games due to lingering soft-tissue issues, and as of early September, three other players Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham were already ruled out for the season after undergoing surgeries. The list grew longer on September 4, when forward Chloe Bibby, signed in August to help fill those gaps, was also declared out for the remainder of the year with a left knee injury.

In response, Indiana announced the signing of rookie guard Bree Hall to finish out the season. Hall, who starred at South Carolina under Dawn Staley, was originally drafted by the Fever with the 20th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and spent training camp with the team before being cut. Staley wasted no time celebrating the move, posting on X: “Yeah yeah yeah @breezyhalll! Push them over the playoff line!! Let’s gooooo!!!”

That playoff push is very real. With three games left, the Fever sit in eighth place the final postseason spot which would currently pit them against the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx. Hall could provide a spark to help Indiana not just clinch a berth, but possibly move up the standings to avoid facing the league’s frontrunners in round one.

Hall’s return also reunites her with Fever All-Star Aliyah Boston, her former teammate and close friend at South Carolina. Boston will no doubt welcome her back warmly, adding another layer of familiarity to Indiana’s late-season fight.
