Chester Frazier will not be joining Darian DeVries at Indiana, but his next move may still disappoint WVU fans. After bidding an emotional farewell to West Virginia and dismissing speculation about Indiana, Frazier has been announced as the new assistant coach at Virginia Tech.
Reflecting on his time at WVU, Frazier shared:
“What a year! This was probably my most rewarding season as a coach. Our team gave everything they had, and I truly believe we built a resume worthy of a tournament bid. To Mountaineer fans you are the best! Your loyalty and support meant the world to my family, and we’ll always be grateful. While we couldn’t finish what we started, I know you’ll continue to be great. With love, Fraz.”
A Baltimore native, Frazier previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Illinois and was the associate head coach at Virginia Tech before that. His coaching journey began with a seven-year stint at Kansas State under Bruce Weber. Known as a strong recruiter, Frazier played a key role in assembling WVU’s promising 2025 recruiting class, which has begun to unravel following DeVries’s departure. Throughout his 13-year career, teams he’s coached have made eight NCAA Tournament appearances WVU would have made it nine this season and claimed three conference titles.
