The 2025 WNBA Playoffs begin Sunday, Sept. 14, with the Indiana Fever taking on the Atlanta Dream as one of four first-round matchups. Indiana will be without several key starters, including All-Star guard Caitlin Clark.
On Sept. 4, Clark announced she would not return this season after battling groin and ankle injuries. “I had hoped to give a better update, but I won’t be back this year. I’ve spent hours in the gym daily with the goal of returning, and disappointed doesn’t even cover how I feel,” she wrote in a social media post.
She went on to thank fans and the Fever organization for their support during her recovery. “This has been frustrating, but there’s still good in it. The fans showing up for me and for the Fever brought me joy and perspective. I’m proud of how this team has grown stronger through adversity, and now it’s time to finish the season and fight for a playoff spot.”
Meanwhile, guard Lexie Hull marked her 26th birthday just days before the playoff clash, celebrating alongside her twin sister, Lacie. Posting “26!!!” on Instagram with a photo of the two, she received a playful comment from Clark: “Happy Birthday Lacie ❤️,” jokingly ignoring Lexie.
Fans loved the lighthearted moment, with one commenting, “You are just pure sass,” and another teasing, “Is trolling your full-time job?” Others noted how much they would miss Clark’s online humor, though not as much as seeing her play.
Tip-off between the Fever and Dream is set for 3 p.m. ET on ABC.
