Alan Horujko has been promoted to Deputy Chief of the Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD), effective February 10, 2025. In this role, he will work alongside Deputy Chief Eric Whiteside and report directly to Chief Dennis Jeffrey.

 

Career Background

 

Horujko began his tenure with OSUPD in 2015, serving the campus community for nearly a decade. Prior to joining OSUPD, he was a police officer for Ohio Health. Over the past five years as a lieutenant, he has gained valuable management experience, leading initiatives related to special event incident command and critical decision-making under stress.

 

Notable Achievements

 

In 2016, Horujko was the first officer on the scene during a terrorist-inspired attack at Ohio State University. His swift and decisive actions in ending the threat that day earned him the 2019 United States Congressional Medal of Valor.

 

Community Engagement and Education

 

Horujko has been actively involved in community outreach initiatives, including raising funds for military families and the Special Olympics. He has served as an instructor for OSUPD on topics such as incident command, active shooter response, and leadership. Additionally, he is an instructor in the Supervisor Training and Education Program (STEP) for Ohio’s Law Enforcement Foundation.

 

Educational Pursuits

 

Horujko holds a bachelor’s degree in security and intelligence from Ohio State University. He is currently working toward both a graduate certificate in public management and a master’s degree in public administration and leadership from Ohio State’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs.
